The genre of contemporary Taiwanese youth films include not only light-hearted subjects, teen entertainments but also social problem and more personal, quasi-autobiographical works by contemporary directors. The authors argue that the Taiwanese youth films comprise a genre of melodrama, and the intensity is due to muteness and isolation of the characters. ![]() The study confirms that Taiwanese Cinema is slow in its narrative pacing and full of intensity. The article discusses the relationships of Taiwanese youths with their peers and parents in their social upbringing as portrayed in the films. The two fictional feature films being examined are Winds of September produced in 2008 and Summer’s Tail produced in 2007. The study is an attempt to exemplify the styles of youth films in contemporary Taiwanese Cinema. ![]()
